IL MAESTRO

Michele Affidato nasce a Crotone, cuore della Magna Grecia. Già da ragazzo amava realizzare, con fili di ferro e cuoio, i suoi gioielli artigianali, immaginando di poter creare con le conchiglie del mare della sua città dei capolavori, coltivando nel frattempo in cuor suo una passione: l’arte orafa. Inizia da adolescente ad avvicinarsi a questo mondo, all’età di dodici anni è già a bottega, alternando la scuola al lavoro, pronto ad imparare tutti i segreti di un’arte antica quanto l’uomo; un processo creativo capace di dare vita ad oggetti sempre unici. Dopo aver appreso la conoscenza e le tecniche di lavorazione, nel 1987 avvia la sua bottega di arte orafa nella città di Crotone, coronando il suo sogno, dando forma e anima ai suoi gioielli tra ideazione, studio e sperimentazione. Dalle riparazioni alle prime creazioni su commissione, nascono così le prime collezioni preziose di Michele Affidato che si fa conoscere e apprezzare per le sue capacità artistiche. Iniziano i riconoscimenti per la sua arte e da lì si rivela un nuovo mondo. Crea diversi premi per manifestazioni nazionali e internazionali, partecipa a mostre e sfilate di moda, realizzando anche gioielli per personalità del mondo dello spettacolo, dello sport e della cultura. Tra i tanti incarichi ricevuti, spiccano i premi speciali che da diversi anni realizza per il Festival di Sanremo. Nel corso della sua esperienza artistica, affascinato e appassionato dell’arte sacra, si è dedicato al suo studio, realizzando diverse opere per chiese e autorità religiose. È stato inoltre ricevuto in Vaticano numerose volte dagli ultimi tre Pontefici, che hanno dato la loro benedizione alle opere di arte sacra da lui realizzate. Per Papa Benedetto e Papa Francesco ha anche realizzato lo Stemma Papale. Tra gli incarichi ricevuti, uno dei più prestigiosi è stato quello di realizzare i nuovi Diademi per l’icona della Madonna di Czestochowa, una delle Madonne più conosciute al mondo e tanto amata da Giovanni Paolo II. Nella Bottega del maestro orafo si studiano forme e idee, eseguendo la lavorazione artigianale del prezioso metallo con un processo creativo che coniuga storia e attualità e che spazia dai gioielli all’arte sacra con eguale eleganza e personalità.

THE MASTER

Michele Affidato was born in Crotone, the heart of Magna Grecia. Since when he was a child, he has always loved to create, by using iron and leather threads, his handmade jewels, imagining he could create masterpieces with the sea shells found on the seashore, while cultivating a passion deep in his heart: the goldsmith’s art. He started to approach to this world as a teenager, at the age of twelve he was already in the shop, alternating school to work, ready to learn all the secrets of an art as old as the man; a creative process capable of giving life to unique objects. After learning the knowledge and processing techniques, in 1987 he started his goldsmith’s workshop in the city of Crotone, crowning his dream, giving shape and soul to his jewels through design, study and experimentation. From repairs to the first commissioned creations, the first precious collections by Michele Affidato were born, making himself known and appreciated for his artistic skills. The recognitions for his art begin and from there a new world is revealed. He creates several prizes for national and international events, takes part to exhibitions and fashion shows, also making jewels for personalities of the world of entertainment, sport and culture. Among the many assignments received, the special prizes that he has been carrying out for the Sanremo Festival for several years stand out. During his artistic experience, fascinated and passionate about sacred art, he dedicated himself to its study, creating various works for churches and religious authorities. He has also been received at the Vatican several times by the last three Pontiffs, who have given their blessing to the sacred art works he made. For Pope Benedict and Pope Francis he has also created the Papal Coat of Arms. Among the commissioned assignments, one of the most prestigious was to create the new Tiaras for the icon of the Madonna of Czestochowa, one of the most famous Madonnas in the world and so loved by John Paul II. In the master goldsmith’s Workshop, shapes and ideas are studied, carrying out the craftsmanship of the precious metal with a creative process that combines history and current affairs and that ranges from jewellery to sacred art featured by equal elegance and personality.

LA SUA BOTTEGA DI ARTE ORAFA

Nella sua bottega di arte orafa, che condivide con i suoi collaboratori, vengono realizzati gioielli ed opere, interamente a mano, eseguendo la lavorazione del prezioso metallo con un processo creativo capace di dare vita a delle creazioni sempre uniche. Un’arte antica, elaborata con sensibilità moderna, arricchita da esperienze personali.  Oggi il Maestro rappresenta un esempio di tenacia, impegno e laboriosità. É infatti apprezzato, conosciuto ed affermato a livello nazionale ed internazionale.

HIS GOLDSMITH WORKSHOP

In his goldsmith’s workshop, which he shares with his collaborators, jewels and works are made entirely by hand, performing the processing of the precious metal with a creative process capable of giving life to always unique creations. An ancient art, elaborated with modern sensibility, enriched by personal experiences.  Today the Master represents an example of tenacity, commitment and hard work. He is in fact appreciated, known and affirmed at national and international level.

LE CREAZIONI

Le creazioni del maestro Michele Affidato sono un connubio tra l’antico e il moderno, guardano al passato ed al presente tra arte, tradizione e modernità. Nella sua bottega nascono gioielli realizzati interamente a mano, utilizzando antiche tecniche di lavorazione. Nelle sue creazioni vi è una ricerca dello stile magnogreco-bizantino, fino ad esprimersi nella gioielleria contemporanea, coniugando elementi nuovi e tratti distintivi in un processo creativo sempre attento alle nuove tendenze. Una parabola artistico-creativa tutta crescente. Attraverso vari studi e particolari creazioni realizzate artigianalmente, ha ideato una collezione di gioielli dal tema: “Percorsi di una storia preziosa – l’Evoluzione del gioiello dall’antica Magna Graecia ai nostri giorni”, al fine di raccontare, tramite un’interpretazione personale, la trasformazione del gioiello nel tempo. Creazioni di arte orafa che intendono contribuire alla valorizzazione e alla promozione di essa, attraverso i diversi stili, raccontando l’evoluzione del gioiello nella storia, diventata motivo di studio e riferimento nei progetti di Alternanza Scuola-Lavoro in diversi Istituti.

THE CREATIONS

The master Michele Affidato’s creations are a combination of ancient and modern features, looking to the past and present through art, tradition and modernity. In his workshop, jewels are created entirely by hand, using ancient manufacturing techniques. In his creations there is a search for the Magna Graeco-Byzantine style, up to expressing himself in contemporary jewellery, combining new elements and distinctive features in a creative process always attentive to new trends. A growing artistic-creative parable. Through various studies and particular creations made by hand, he has created a collection of jewels with the theme: “Paths of a precious history – the Evolution of the jewel from ancient Magna Graecia to our days“, in order to tell, through a personal interpretation, the transformation of the jewel over the time. Goldsmith’s creations that intend to contribute to their enhancement and promotion, through the different styles, telling the evolution of the jewel in history, which has become a reason for study and reference in the Alternanza Scuola-Lavoro projects in different Schools.

L’ ARTE SACRA

Nel percorso artistico, la sua versatilità e passione lo porta ed esplorare il mistico ed affascinante mondo dell’arte sacra, sino a diventarne un vero e proprio studioso. La dedizione a questa particolare forma d’arte è ripagata da importanti commissioni ricevute, ideando capolavori per simulacri, immagini, chiese, luoghi sacri e autorità ecclesiastiche. Il tratto distintivo, forse più affascinante dell’arte sacra, è la vicinanza alla devozione popolare, dove il processo creativo regala emozioni sempre nuove che si trasmettono dall’opera alla gente e viceversa. Questo ha dato la possibilità al maestro Michele Affidato di lavorare su opere uniche e preziose, come l’icona della Madonna di Czestochowa “la Vergine tanto amata da Giovanni Paolo II” per la quale ha ricevuto il prestigioso incarico di realizzare i nuovi diademi ed il calice Giubilare, in occasione dello storico evento del 300° anniversario della sua prima incoronazione. Diademi che sono stati realizzati successivamente anche per l’icona della Madonna di American Czestochowa, custodita nel Santuario di Doylestown in Pennsylvania, negli degli Stati Uniti d’America. Ha lavorato inoltre su opere di grande valore storico, come la tela del 1600 raffigurante la Madonna del Pozzoleo in Santa Severina, impreziosita da un bassorilievo in argento e pietre, il restauro delle corone del 700 della B.V. Immacolata custodita nella Cattedrale di Squillace, le corone per la Madonna Regina Pacis della Cattedrale di Ostia, la corona per la B.V. Immacolata del Convitto Lateranense Beato Pio IX della Pontificia Università Lateranense, i diademi per la Vergine delle Grazie di Zagarolo (Castelli Romani), le corone per la Madonna del Pozzo della Cattedrale di Bisceglie, la scultura raffigurante Santa Gemma Galgani realizzata per la Casa Madre delle Sorelle di Santa Gemma in Camigliano (LU) ed altre ancora. Affidato prova ancora emozione nel parlare della realizzazione del reliquiario della Sacra Spina, che custodisce una spina della corona di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo: “Davanti a tale reliquia, l’emozione è stata veramente grande così come smisurato è stato il desiderio e la responsabilità di realizzare un’opera che fosse veramente degna di custodirla”.

THE SACRED ART

Along his artistic path, his versatility and passion leads him to explore the mystical and fascinating world of sacred art, until he becomes a real sacred-art scholar. His dedication to this particular art form is rewarded by important commissions received, designing masterpieces for simulacra, images, churches, sacred places and ecclesiastical authorities. The distinctive feature, perhaps more fascinating than sacred art, is its closeness to popular devotion, where the creative process gives ever new emotions that are transmitted from the work to the people and vice versa. This gave the possibility to the master Michele Affidato to work on unique and precious works, such as the icon of the Madonna of Czestochowa “the Virgin so loved by John Paul II” for which he received the prestigious task of creating the new tiaras and the Jubilee chalice, on the occasion of the historic event of the 300th anniversary of her first coronation. These tiaras were later made also for the icon of the Madonna of American Czestochowa, kept in the Doylestown Shrine in Pennsylvania, in the United States of America. He also performed works of great historical value, such as the canvas of 1600 depicting the Madonna del Pozzoleo in Santa Severina, that he embellished with a bas-relief in silver and stones, the restoration of the 700’s crowns of the Blessed Immaculate Virgin Mary kept in the Cathedral of Squillace, the crowns for the Madonna Regina Pacis of the Cathedral of Ostia, the crown for the Blessed Immaculate Virgin Mary of the Lateran Boarding School Blessed Pius IX of the Pontifical Lateran University, the tiaras for the Our Lady of Grace in Zagarolo (Castelli Romani), the crowns for the Madonna del Pozzo of the Cathedral of Bisceglie, the sculpture representing Saint Gemma Galgani realised for the Mother House of the Sisters of Santa Gemma in Camigliano (LU) and others. Affidato still feels emotional while speaking about the realization of the reliquary of the Holy Thorn, which houses a thorn from the crown of Our Lord Jesus Christ: “In front of this relic, the emotion was genuinely great as well as the desire and responsibility of creating a work that was truly worthy of preserving it ”.

I PONTEFICI

Michele Affidato è stato ricevuto in Vaticano numerose volte dagli ultimi tre Pontefici. Molte sue opere di arte sacra, realizzate per chiese e autorità religiose, sono state benedette da Papa Giovanni Paolo II, Papa Benedetto e da Papa Francesco. Per Papa Benedetto e Papa Francesco ha anche realizzato lo Stemma Papale. In occasione delle Udienze Generali e private sono stati realizzati anche opere commissionate al maestro Michele Affidato da vari enti civili e religiosi, per farne dono ai Pontefici, divenute parte integrante del patrimonio artistico della Santa Sede e custodite nei Musei Vaticani.

THE PONTIFFS

The last three Popes have received Michele Affidato at the Vatican several times. Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict and Pope Francis have blessed many of his works of sacred art, realised on behalf of churches and religious authorities. For Pope Benedict and Pope Francis he has also created the Papal Coat of Arms. On the occasion of the General and private Audiences, works commissioned to the master Michele Affidato by various civil and religious bodies were also realised, to be given to the Popes, which became an integral part of the artistic heritage of the Holy See and kept in the Vatican Museums.

FESTIVAL DI SANREMO

Da diversi anni partecipa con la sua arte al Festival della Canzone Italiana, realizzando non solo i premi speciali per il Festival, ma anche i premi per Casa Sanremo, Premio Numeri Uno – Città di Sanremo, Premio Dietro le Quinte, i premi per il concorso di Area Sanremo e diversi altri premi per gli eventi collaterali. Con le sue creazioni, negli anni, sono stati premiati grandi artisti, giornalisti, autori e maestranze che hanno contrassegnato i momenti più salienti della storia del Festival e valorizzato la musica italiana nel mondo. Una forma d’arte quella del maestro Michele Affidato che impreziosisce il Festival. Un grande riconoscimento quello che gli viene affidato di portare in una vetrina importante come Sanremo la sua arte così come è grande la gratificazione che scaturisce dall’aver firmato, premi destinati a restare nella storia della musica italiana. Tra i tanti che ha realizzato: nel 2010 quelli assegnati a Nilla Pizzi, Antonella Clerici ed alle maestranze Rai, rappresentato da una croma stilizzata. Nel 2011, quello che ha premiato la canzone più votata della storia della musica italiana, nella serata evento “Nata per Unire”, in occasione del 150° Anniversario dell’Unità d’Italia, assegnata ad Al Bano Carrisi con il “Va’ Pensiero” del Nabucco di Verdi. Il premio raffigura la preziosa Italia che spicca sul tricolore e su ogni capoluogo è stato incastonato un diamante. Opera presentata dai vertici Rai al Quirinale alla presenza del Capo dello Stato Giorgio Napolitano e destinata a restare negli annali della storia del Festival della Canzone Italiana. Nel 2012, il premio realizzato per la serata evento “Viva l’Italia nel Mondo”, raffigurante il globo terrestre su cui brilla la bella Italia tempestata di diamanti, assegnato per la migliore interpretazione a Patti Smith e Marlene Kuntz con “Impressioni di Settembre” della PFM. Nel 2013, il premio realizzato per “Casa Sanremo”, assegnato al vincitore del Festival di Sanremo Marco Mengoni, nel 2014 alla vincitrice del Festival Arisa e nel 2015 al Volo. Nel 2016 ha realizzato il premio Cover per la serata speciale del Festival vinto dagli Stadio con l’interpretazione de “La Sera dei Miracoli” di Lucio Dalla e nel 2017 il premio Cover vinto da Ermal Meta con l’interpretazione di “Amara Terra Mia” di Domenico Modugno. Per il Festival di Sanremo 2018 ha ricevuto il prestigioso incarico di realizzare il “Premio della Critica – Mia Martini”, premio assegnato dalla Sala Stampa a Ron con il brano scritto nel 2012 da Lucio Dalla “Almeno Pensami” e a Mirkoeilcane con il brano “Stiamo tutti bene”. Nel 2019 sempre con il premio della Critica Mia Martini ha premiato Daniele Silvestri per il brano “Argento Vivo”. Nel 2020 realizza ancora il Premio della Critica Mia Martini e gli viene commissionato anche il Premio Sala Stampa Lucio Dalla, Radio Web e Tv. Il premio della Critica per la sezione Big è stato assegnato a Diodato con il brano Rumore, mentre per le nuove proposte l’opera è andata agli Eugenio in via di Gioia con il brano Tsunami. Il Premio Sala Stampa Lucio Dalla per la sezione Big è andato ancora a Diodato e per le nuove proposte a Tecla Insolia con il brano 8 Marzo. E ancora il Premio “Numeri Uno – Città di Sanremo”, rappresentato da una scultura raffigurante una “Palma d’Argento”, assegnato a quegli artisti che hanno fatto conoscere il Festival nel mondo. L’opera è stata consegnata nel 2014 a Pippo Baudo, nel 2015 ad Al Bano Carrisi, nel 2016 a Tony Renis, nel 2017 a Rita Pavone, nel 2018 a Toto Cutugno, nel 2019 a Iva Zanicchi e nel 2020 a Fausto Leali. Inoltre da diversi anni realizza il Premio “Dietro le Quinte”, riconoscimento che viene assegnato a chi ha contribuito a valorizzare il Festival nel mondo. Tra i tanti che hanno ricevuto la preziosa scultura stilizzata: Vincenzo Mollica, Francesco Migliacci, Michele Mondella, Pino Donaggio, Mario Luzzato Fegiz, Marinella Venegoni, Tullia Brunetto, Pasquale Mammaro, Fio Zanotti, Fabbrizio Berlincioni, Pinuccio Pirazzoli. SANREMO FESTIVAL

For several years he has taken part with his art to the Italian Song Festival, realising not only the special prizes for the Festival, but also the prizes for Casa Sanremo, Numeri Uno Prize – City of Sanremo, Dietro le Quinte (Backstage) Prize, the prizes for the competition of Area Sanremo and several other awards for collateral events. Over the years, his creations have rewarded great artists, journalists, authors and workers who have marked the most salient moments in the history of the Festival and valued Italian music all over the world. Master Michele Affidato’s art form embellishes the Festival. A great acknowledgement is given to him for bringing his art to an important showcase such as Sanremo, as well as the gratification that arises from having signed prizes bound to remain in the history of Italian music. Among the many he has created: in 2010 those assigned to Nilla Pizzi, Antonella Clerici and Rai workerforce, representing a stylized quaver. In 2011, the one that awarded the most voted song in the history of Italian music, in the night event “Born to Unite”, on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, assigned to Al Bano Carrisi with “Va ‘Pensiero”, piece from Verdi’s Nabucco. The award depicts the precious Italy that stands out on the tricolour and a diamond has been set on each main town. Work presented by the Rai top management at the Quirinale in the presence of the Head of State Giorgio Napolitano and bound to remain in the annals of the history of the Italian Song Festival. In 2012, the prize realised for the night event “Long live Italy in the World”, depicting the globe on which the beautiful Italy studded with diamonds shines, awarded for the best interpretation to Patti Smith and Marlene Kuntz with “Impressions of September” of the PFM. In 2013, the prize for “Casa Sanremo”, awarded to the winner of the Sanremo Festival, Marco Mengoni, in 2014 to the winner of the Festival, Arisa, and in 2015 to the trio Il Volo. In 2016 he realised the Cover prize for the special night event of the Festival won by the Stadio with the interpretation of “La Sera dei Miracoli” by Lucio Dalla and in 2017 the Cover prize won by Ermal Meta with the interpretation of “Amara Terra Mia” by Domenico Modugno. For the 2018 Sanremo Festival, he received the prestigious assignment of realising the “Critics Award – Mia Martini”, a prize awarded by the Press Room to Ron with the song written in 2012 by Lucio Dalla “Almeno Pensami” and to Mirkoeilcane with the song “Stiamo tutti bene”. In 2019, always with the Critics Award Mia Martini, he awarded Daniele Silvestri for the song “Argento Vivo”. In 2020, together with the Critics Award Mia Martini, he was also commissioned with the Lucio Dalla Press Room Award, Radio Web e Tv. The Critics prize for the “Big” section was awarded to Diodato with the song Rumore, while for the new proposals the work was awarded to the Eugenio in via di Gioia with the song Tsunami. The Lucio Dalla Press Room Award for the “Big” section was awarded again to Diodato and for the new proposals to Tecla Insolia with the song 8 Marzo. And again the “Numeri Uno – Città di Sanremo” Prize, represented by a sculpture depicting a “Silver Palm”, awarded to those artists who made the Festival known worldwide. The work was assigned in 2014 to Pippo Baudo, in 2015 to Al Bano Carrisi, in 2016 to Tony Renis, in 2017 to Rita Pavone, in 2018 to Toto Cutugno, in 2019 to Iva Zanicchi and in 2020 to Fausto Leali. Furthermore, for several years he has been realising the “Dietro le Quinte” (Behind the Scenes) Prize, an award that is given to those who have contributed to enhancing the Festival worldwide. Among the many who received the precious stylized sculpture: Vincenzo Mollica, Francesco Migliacci, Michele Mondella, Pino Donaggio, Mario Luzzato Fegiz, Marinella Venegoni, Tullia Brunetto, Pasquale Mammaro, Fio Zanotti, Fabrizio Berlincioni, Pinuccio Pirazzoli. Goldsmith’s works, manufacturing masterpieces expressing a great symbolic value.

Non solo arte, la sensibilità porta il maestro Affidato da sempre ad interessarsi per il sociale, arrivando a essere insignito della nomina ad Ambasciatore Unicef.

L’amore per il suo lavoro, che condivide con la sua famiglia, i collaboratori ed in particolare con i figli Vanessa, Emanuela e Antonio, è parallelo all’amore per la sua città “Crotone”, che potremmo definire un gioiello, una perla custodita nel Mediterraneo, così come una perla custodita nel cuore della sua città, un elegante showroom con annesso laboratorio nella centralissima Piazza Pitagora.

The love for his work, which he shares with his family, collaborators and in particular with his children Vanessa, Emanuela and Antonio, goes along with the love for his city “Crotone”, which we could define a jewel, a pearl kept in the Mediterranean, as well as a pearl kept in the heart of its city, an elegant showroom with an adjacent laboratory in the central Piazza Pitagora.
